The design of this hat started with the wish to use only 1 hank of the gorgeous Tall Yarns Chunky Baby Alpaca (with just 100 metres in 1 hank). I had also recently been working on a Lace Shawl that included a simple yet striking Victorian lace stitch called “Barege”. Never having seen this stitch in anything else than fine lace, I knitted a test and I loved the result. The stitch is quite fun and funky in a chunky yarn, so using up the last metres of yarn in the hank for some playful tassles does not just emphasise the square top of the hat, but also completes the brief of using 1 hank (a whole hank, and nothing BUT a hank!).
