Double Dutch is a scarf/shawl with a shallow triangle shape that consists of 2 layers of knitting. It is knitted in 1 piece, then folded and then the top edge is stitched closed. This makes weaving in ends unnecessary, you can just tie them off and they will get captured between the 2 layers of knitting.
The first layer is knitted top-down, like a typical triangular shawl, starting at the centre top and radiating out. The second layer is knitted in the opposite direction, starting from the bottom edge and gradually reducing the stitch count as you knit back up, finishing at the starting point of the first half, at the centre top edge.
This kit contains 8 x 25gms skeins of our Layercake Linen yarn, spun by he same lovely people that weave our linen fabrics.
A note about the darkest colours of Layercake Linen: I have had two reports since I started selling this linen yarn of the black rubbing off on fingers while knitting. Unlike our linen fabrics, the linen yarn is not pre-washed, so the darkest colours MAY release some excess dye stuff on your fingers. I have done a lot of knitting with the black linen and have not experienced it yet, so this obviously varies from one person to the next. You do not have to worry about the dye bleeding into any of the other colours if you wet your project.
The same weight as our Soliloquy Sock Lace, Layercake linen runs 600 m per 100 grams and is perfect for knitting a garment or accessory to go with your Layercake Smock, Tabard, Apron, etc.
As a first kit, the colours are to match the new Layercake Large Purple Check linen. More colour options will be added this Spring.
