Twist & Turns was the 2022 Mystery Knit-along organised by Stephen West. This is a recurring annual event, scheduled in autumn, starting in the first week of October.
The knitalong is always for a multi-coloured large shawl, knitted using standard 4-ply yarn. I like knitting the WestKnits MKAL's in a finer yarn on thinner needles. This results in a slightly smaller project, perfectly in proportion but a bit more manageable in size.
For Twist & Turns, the specified needle size, knitting with 4-ply, is 3.50mm. Using my Yak Blends I & II 4-ply yarns works perfectly on 3.50mm needles. the Yak Blend shawl is whown for size comparison only. This year was the first time I decided to knit a finer version completely out of my 100% Linen 3-ply. If you tend to be a tighter knitter, I recommend 3.00mm needles. If you are used to knitting with linen and don't knit too tight, use 2.75mm needles. If in doubt, knit a small swatch to check you are happy with the look and feel of the fabric you produce.

wing span: 2.30m (90in)
Drop (measured at the centre): 56cm (22in)
3-ply, on 2.75mm needles
wing span: 1.50m (59in)
Drop (measured at the centre): 38cm (15in)
The 3-ply kits (600m p. 100gms) contain:
LINEN:
- 100gms of linen for the main and contrast colours
- 50gms of linen for the accent colour
- pattern NOT included!
Note: in the knitted 3-ply sample the main colour is Purple, the contrast colour is Natural (un-dyed linen) and the accent colour is Slate (dark grey)
